How to use this Marvel Cinematic Universe map
Why an earlier setting can reveal later information
Chronology places the main events of a story; it cannot make every framing scene or credit scene spoiler-free. A prequel may assume knowledge of films released before it. Release order is therefore our default recommendation for a first encounter, even though the map initially displays historical order.
A multiverse connection does not erase an older continuity
The catalogue includes separately labelled legacy branches alongside the primary MCU. Their inclusion helps you find connected versions of characters. It does not relocate every event in those films into the main MCU history. Choose the continuity filter before interpreting two neighbouring cards as successive chapters.
Essential for which goal?
There is no useful universal answer to “must I watch everything?” A full-series project, a character-focused route and preparation for one new film are different tasks. Starter Mode reduces the list, but it is an editorial shortcut, not a guarantee that every reference is covered. Use the linked Library advice for the commitment you actually want to make.

Can I switch from chronology to release order?
Yes. Story chronology is the default full map; Release order re-sorts the same stories by their first public release.
How do I make the list shorter?
Turn on Starter Mode for a smaller central arc. The full universe remains the default and returns instantly when the filter is switched off.
Are Blade, Elektra and the old X-Men movies MCU canon?
They began as separate continuities. They now appear in the same complete map with a Legacy label and their own branch order—not inside the primary MCU timeline.
What is outside this map?
The guide includes MCU-specific stories and screen continuities that directly intersect with it. Cosmetic crossovers, reference-only material and unrelated Marvel universes are outside this scope.
